On a whim, I signed up for another half marathon this weekend. I will be running along side my best friend’s hubby.
And most likely… IN THE RAIN.

So here is to hoping my outfit selection keeps me dry(er) during the race. I think this is good practice just in case it rains during the Pittsburgh Marathon in May.
Anyone have any tips for running in the rain? I usually decline a run in the rain. I mean I am made of sugar and all

Moisture whicking outfit and not too many layers – you don’t what to be bogged down. GO GIRLIE GO!
I have run in the rain, because a) I got caught in it, or b) I paid to do a race & can’t give up the $$.
That being said, prepare as best you can according to the weather and your body’s reaction to the weather. I have a nice Nike jacket that is waterproof & has a hood. It weighs next to nothing – you can borrow it if you like.
Rain gear presents certain challenges: it only keeps dry what it covers, and it doesn’t breathe. The not breathing part can cause you to sweat enough that you don’t keep dry anyway, but it can also cause you to overheat (or chafe).
My preferred rain protection has been the age-old poncho. It provides good coverage, is not restrictive, & can breathe better than most garments. The $1 ones don’t do as well for me as they are made for sweat shop midgets. But, if you wear a $1 poncho & the weather clears, you don’t mind throwing it away.
Hope this helps a bit. Let me know if you want to borrow the jacket. It’s green.
Wear a baseball hat !!
Aw mann I’m with you – usually rain is a big no-no for me. Those are days I say hello to the treadmill. But if you’ve committed… ! Just make sure you’ve got water-proof apparel.
Ugh. You won’t be alone! Rain is in the forecast for RnRNOLA this weekend, too. Blah. I don’t mind running in the rain, but not when it’s a race I want to do well in. Guess we’ll see what happens! Hope you have a great race despite the rain!
