2015 Elf on the Run

elf

Welcome to the Elf on the Run Challenge!

This challenge will run from December 1-12, 2015 to show our local Savannah community {runners and non-runners} how easy it is to give back.

Community Service can be as simple as giving an hour of your day, index cards to an after school program, or reading an extra book to your kids at night.

I fully believe that “you never stand so tall as when you bend down to help someone up”.

Please read the below in its entirety…. it’s long but filled with lots of holly jolly spirit.

If you have not already signed up to get the official Elf on the Run updates from the North Pole, please do so HERE. Please sign up BY DECEMBER 1st. Of course, the Head Elf can probably get a pass from Santa if you come on to the team late. You just may have to sway him with a cookie or carrot for the reindeer 😉 Just Kidding!

Below are the 12 Challenges. While each day has a challenge, you do not need to do them on that day {except Day #11}. There will be a Holiday Drop off bin at Fleet Feet Savannah aka Elf Central. Place your mission item in the bins, no need to put your name on the item {Fleet Feet is open Monday-Saturday 10-6pm}. Items must be placed in the bins BY Monday, DECEMBER 14th at NOON!!!

Of course, the Head Elf would love for everyone to complete all 12 challenges, but in order to be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing (valued over $100!) you must complete at least five (5) of the missions. In the introduction email, which will be sent out prior to December 1st, there will be #ElfontheRun Mission Accomplished Form. It will also be available on the event FaceBook page.

But that’s not only way to win! Stay active in the FaceBook event page to win Best Use of Coupons, Most Creative Cards (best handmade), etc etc. Be active in the group, use the #ElfontheRun on all social media outlets and let’s have fun!

Again, you do not need to do all 12 challenges. You can pick any five and drop them off at anytime between December 1st and 12th to qualify to win the grand prize {winner will be drawn from qualified entries}. Just fill out the above final form to be entered.

December 1st- Coffee Cups (etc) for Emmaus House 8-10 oz Styrofoam coffee cups are needed for our local soup kitchen. Emmaus House serves between 130-170 meals each morning and not just a coffee and bagel but a MEAL. Sometimes its fried chicken and all the fixin’s! Recently, some of our Fleet Feet CREW runners have been volunteering there and really have enjoyed it!

December 2nd- Toiletries for Union Mission On a monthly basis, Union Mission provides 7,500 shelter nights, 20,000+ meals and supportive services (counseling, recovery services, employment and training).  They are in need of Toiletries, so full size or travel sizes {like I always collect on my travels}.

December 3rd- Glue Sticks for HUGS (Heads Up Guidance Services, Inc)- Glue sticks are needed for the weekly creative space community workshops.

December 4th- Dog or Cat Treats for Humane Society of Savannah- Hunter is a rescue from this Humane Society and we all know how adorable his little mutt face is! And who doesn’t want cute little rescues to have treats during the Holidays? We all know that Santa loves cookies and so do animals!

December 5th- Letter to our Troops– Write a letter on a notecard or piece of paper, place it in an envelope and I’ll do the rest! Don’t have a card? There are some extras next to the “mailbox” at Elf Central. We are sending letters to our fellow Savannah runners that are deployed.

December 6th- Canned Food for Blessings in a Bookbag Let’s help these kids at Brock Elementary and fill their bookbags so they don’t go hungry on the weekends.

{Monday} December 7th- Loop it Up Savannah- Colored pencils and regular pencils for ‘at-promise’ kids can continue to be creative through this unique non-profit. Stay tuned to the FaceBook page for a special event on this day to be able to do artwork with the kids!

December 8th- Adult Socks for both Senior Citizens, Inc AND JC Lewis Cancer Center (the elves will split the donations an even 50/50. Both groups are on the NICE LIST from the North Pole!)

December 9th- Index Cards  for Performance Initiatives– This program is amazing and the kids are the best ever! They are running low on index cards and use it to study after school five days a week. Help these athletes keep up with their great study habits that they learned at Performance Initiatives and provide them with index cards!

December 10th– Baby Wipes for Safe Shelter (Domestic Abuse Shelter)

December 11th-Pick up 5 Pieces of Trash on your Run/Walk- Bring a bag and get to work on your run!! Pick up some litter and recycle {if it can be} or throw away what cannot be recycled!

December 12th- $1 (or more) towards the Savannah Bicycle Campaign “New Standard Cycle” campaign to rebuild bikes for refugees. Our donations will go towards lights for bikes. As runners we know how important lights and being seen are to runners and cyclists alike!

And check back soon for an easy to print Shopping List, direct from the North Pole!
