2 Costumes, 1 Day!

The Costume Scavenger Hunt was the BEST thing that our coaches could have done for us the week before our marathon!
100+ of my closest running buddies gathered at Forsyth Park, which coincidentally is the big finale to the RnRSav next week. We stood there in the dark and checked out each others’ costumes. Some where funny, some where sexy scary (ie men as GaGa…. Jon, if you see this- you looked FAB!), and some where just plain cute!
I opted for an ode to “what not to do while running” ie DO NOT TAKE THE BUS AT MILE 20. I was Rob Sloan and my friend, Narda was the bus.
Am I convincing as Rob??
Thank you CREW coaches for such a fun 9 miles around town!!!
After some chores around the house and maybe a nap… Finn and I had two Halloween parties slated for the evening. We only made it to one, what can I say…. I like my early bedtime (can I blame it on the marathon??!!).
Drop it like its HOT!
I believe I captured her face well…
QOTD: What was your favorite childhood Halloween costume? And what was your favorite candy to get?

Trick or Treat…. Move your Feet!

Tomorrow is our last Saturday run before #RnRSav! That means it’s a Friday night in, which I really don’t mind because I get to sit my tuckus on the couch, sip on my nuun, and watch crazy, bridezillas unlike myself  “Say Yes, to the Dress”.
So my awesome training group is doing an 8-9 mile fun run complete with Halloween costumes. How fun! And if you wear a one, you are in the mix for prizes along the surprise route. How cool is that?!?
So you may be pondering, what is VTB going to be?
A naked runner?? oh la la.
Source and a Pretty cool blog!
Or how about this fun idea to help people find me in a crowd… or not find me…. where’s VTB?

Clues for my costume:
  1. It involves the sport of running
  2. It involves another person
  3. My portion is easy to wear, the other person…. not so much
Any guesses?
Question of the Day: Have you worn a costume for a race (or training run before)? What did you wear?

Less than 2 weeks to go…

I am less than two weeks out for my redemption marathon. To when I can show myself and my ego; that yes, VTB, you can run 26.2 miles.

I have a few goals during race weekend that I want to accomplish:

  1. Enjoy my time at the DetermiNation Pasta Dinner and weekend VIP experience. We have been planning this weekend for months and I want to make sure I relax & enjoy!
  2. Remember why I am running. I am running for my two Grandmothers who both had colon cancer. Thankfully, one of them is still with us! I am also running for quite a few of my camp friends that are so courageous they beat childhood cancer. I am running for my friend, Daniel. And I am running to support my other DNation runners who are running for lost mothers, fathers, sisters & brothers.
  3. To have a fun race! Run it for myself, enjoy it for myself, and only run against myself.
  4. This will be my 2nd chance marathon. To not throw my Princess Crowns on the ground. To not get injured on the course. To remind myself I am ready.

See y’all in Savannah!!

20 miles and Future Races & Places

My drive to work is 13.09 miles one way over gorgeous marshland, one draw bridge, and through the Nation’s largest urban historic district.
Tomorrow, we have our longest run of the training then we start to taper. 20 miles. Holy smokes! 20 miles! I am running further than my commute one way. And on November 5th, I am running my FULL COMMUTE!
We are running around a private, gated community that will weave us around golf courses, along the marsh-front, and the streets of gorgeous homes. Good thing the scenery is beautiful, because 20 miles is no joke. I haven’t run 20 miles in four years since my last marathon training which resulted in a DNF due to knee issues at mile 15; so I am excited, nervous, yet ready to kill these miles! The training group has been so awesome, I know I am prepared! Also, I am running for the American Cancer Society DetermiNation. So every time my foot hits the pavement and every dollar I raise…. I am kicking cancer’s @ss.
On a side note, I am joining the “Run to the Finish” Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge!! Why don’t you join me?!? From November 19 – January 6th, let’s MOVE and not succumb to holiday foods!

This challenge is great for me, because I have quite a few races coming up during the holidays:

Right after the challenge is over, I am already registered for the Charleston Half Marathon (January 14th)! So excited for a girls weekend! We are staying in the cutest historic hotel. I am debating on the 30 mile fun bike ride on that Sunday. Anyone, doing any of the above races??

QOTD: Anyone running the RnR Savannah? Is this weekend your long run? If so, where are you running? What mileage? Can’t wait to see you at the RACE!!!

3 DNation Fundraisers in 24hrs, plus 19 miles!

iCan and WE DID! Team iCan (Laurie and Danielle plus who’s that??) held and participated in 3 separate fundraisers in 24 hours for the American Cancer Society DetermiNation.
Friday kicked off at Sunrise Restaurant with 10% of the total going to our team. So I sat there and ate gorged on bacon, eggs, grits, and about 8 cups of coffee from 6:30-8am to say HI to everyone!! Then from 10-11am at Laurie and I’s ‘place we collect a paycheck’ (don’t worry, we both LOVE our jobs and consider it much, much more than such) we held a bake sale. Now we didn’t know what to expect, maybe raise about $30 which would have been awesome. BUT WE RAISED ABOUT $150 in an hour. Our peers are SUPER! GREAT! And just as cool as US! They asked all about our running. Surprised that Laurie and I were running 18 miles this weekend. And how cool the RnR Savannah course was. Our cups runneth over.
    Hey friends!
I worked some more and then headed back to Sunrise for fabulous lunch… saw these jokers aka my friends! Anyways… we will find out the total of our 10% later this week.. Drum roll, please!
So I went around town later that night after work and picked up some furniture items for the yard sale that was on Saturday morning. I am so blessed to have such caring people who support me through various ways to find a cure.
By 9:30pm; Finn and I were all done loading, collecting, and gathering everything he would need to start the sale. Thank goodness for him! Because I had to wake up at 3:30am and pickup my running buddy, Charlotte, at 4:30am and drive to the groups run location to get in 8 miles before we ran 10 miles with the half marathoners. We didn’t want to have our “better halves” doing the yard sale for us!! So we got in 19 miles based on the Garmins, ran into Panera and took a babywipe shower, grabbed some breakfast to-go, and headed over to the sale! We had 6 of our runners there selling there items and a good constant flow. This was our first time (being the 1st Annual RnR Sav) and we have some great ideas to make it better for next year!
All in all, a great 24 hours! Team iCan guesstimate raised $400 plus whatever Sunrise sends us!! Charlotte and I rocked our 19 mile run… I am feeling great this morning.
I will leave you with this as we are getting close to the race and fundraising is kicking up for all. From my friend, Davidrace with confidence in my head, DetermiNation in my heart, power in my legs and fun in my soul.”
