Veggin’ on the Couch…

I spent most of this week veggin’. And by veggin’, I am not just referring to what I am currently doing which may or may not be eating Milk Duds and watching a movie on a chilly Sunday afternoon. I mean I swapped out 4 of my main meals for the meatless variety! I am not the girl that craves steak and potatoes, but I do usually eat meat at all lunches & dinners. I have been reading blogs over the past few months while training for the marathon and the ones I have been drawn to are mostly the Vegetarian and/or Vegan variety. Now I am definitely not doing a complete 180, but I do appreciate what it does for ones body, mind, and training.
Maybe one day I will learn to cook like Katie over HERE or like Chelsey. Or maybe just have sweet looking blogs like them.
Green Truck Salad with veg patty & avocado slices! nom nom.
While I made these few swap outs this week, kept my sweets to a minimum, and with my hydration levels up- my 12.5 mile run was rocking yesterday! I felt GREAT! Even with about 2 weeks off for my knees and still on medicine to keep the swelling down, my pace was steady and I felt strong.
Workout for the week:
Monday: 40 min elliptical. 30 min bike. abs/arms/back
Tuesday: Interval workout (run) with Run Club
Wednesday: 40 min elliptical. 30 min bike. abs/ arms/ back
Thursday: Tempo run (9 miles) with Run Club
    Friday: OFF
Saturday: 13-15 mile run (including a 5k race)

A Week in Review via Photos

Happy Monday! I have only had 1/2 cup of coffee and zero cardio, so I am lacking in the fun department. But here I go anyway… my past 7 days in review.
I started off by compressing my knees to look like stuff polish sausages to help them… you know that whole R.I.C.E. Helped tremendously!
Then we went to a gala…. and I looked so sexy…
Not even sure what to call this face?!?
I was then 50% cleared for cross training and low mileage… so I busted out this gear:
Should I run or go spelunking??
So I ran 5 miles with no knee pain, just body aches from dusting off the cobwebs. Then biked 10 miles alongside my run buds. They did grrrrrrr-eeeat!
Then I finished off my weekend drinking on Sunday here–
Butterducks Winery in Guyton… check them out, no seriously, check them out
Then here, at the CREW Runners Social at Uncle Bubba’s (Paula Deen’s brothers restaurant) on the water for a great oyster roast—
It was so nice to get to talk to them, because they run so fast during training I just eat their dust
So that was my great weekend in review. Oh yeah, my future-in-laws came too! That was fabulous…. MIL saw THE DRESS. But of course, no photos of that ;) Make it a great Monday… I know I will…. I am going to eat all these yummies for snacks today!
The stuff in the container is Runners Crack aka homemade granola.. of course not made by me! But still.. addicting, I assume like real crack.
QOTD: What are you favorite snacks to pack for healthy lunches?

My HOT new running outfit

While I try to make the best of my situation (I fell and it hurt), I decided to make fun of myself. So on my first day back to being able to run I think I should wear said outfit. Of course, I would have running clothes and appropriate shoes.

Yep… that’s a head lamp, helmet, and run vest. Think that will help??

In the meantime… follow me on facebook at VTB Runs. I promise it’s a good of time as a 6 year old has at Chuck-e-Cheese ;)
Oh and if you ever visit Savannah… check out the Savannah SlowRide. For the ride of your life!

Maybe I should get a head lamp…..

“injuries interrupt our progress before we reach our max, this is frustrating, so we come back and try even harder- and smarter-the next time. And the next.”~ Runners World (found on http://www.hungryrunnergirl.com/)

We’ve all been there. Running in the dark of the morning. I had set out with my group this morning for an 8 mile run. I was feeling great and ready for this easy run before my first “official” half marathon this Saturday. Not even 1/2 mile into the run, BAM! My right toe caught the uneven side walk and my right knee slammed into the ground then my left knee skidded and I rolled onto my side and gracefully slide about 3-4 feet on my side.

I laid there for a few seconds while my fellow teammates that were around me asked if I was ok. I thought I was and thought it was just my ego that was bleeding and bruised. I slowly pushed myself up and tried to walk it off. Even tried to jog for 2.3 seconds. I wanted to cry so bad. But I didn’t want to look wimpy.

One of our coaches was on a bike so she thankfully offered to ride next to me while I limped back to my car. As soon as I bid her goodbye so she could catch up with the other runners and hopped in my car, the tears came down like waterworks.

Fast forward throughout the work day— I am having a hard time walking and my knee seems to be swelling. But it’s my right knee that hurts the most, not the left that is missing a huge chunk. So I decide to go to our local ortho that has afterhours just to make sure all is good. I honestly thought it would be “you’re bruised, just ice, you’ll be ok”. Well… my x-rays were  50/50. I can’t run until my next appt in two weeks because swelling is too much in my left knee and there was a discrepancy on the x-ray.

So here I go again…. I can’t aqua jog, bike, run…. nothing. Just ice, elevate, rest… ugh.
